When was the last time you saw a butterfly?
Not one of those tiny little white ones that very well may be a moth, but an actual butterfly like a monarch or even a viceroy... a butterfly with a wingspan of at least several inches.... something with a pattern on it's wings. And not in a museum or zoo, and alive rather than dead on display. I can't remember the last time. It seems like we used to see them all the time when I was growing up. But then Tuesday, at an apartment complex in the Detroit Area, I saw one.... just flying about around a crab apple tree. I watched it for a while before I went in and when I came back out. It amazed me to see it, especially since the last time I do remember seeing a butterfly were ones in captivity in a zoo my family visited years and years ago. Strange.
I remember when we made the plans for the house we live in now, one of our ideas was to convert a hip-roof barn into a giant multi-storied house (was it three or five?) complete with elevator. Upon thinking about it randomly yesterday, I realized I still think it's a cool idea. I know people do it. Big open area in the center with the elevator being glass so you could look down from any of the upper floors and see people down below or watch them on the elevator. At the very top, it would just be like one big bedroom sweet with giant round windows on either end facing east and west to capture the sunrise and sunset, so you could watch either or both depending on what suits you. There'd be a bathroom and a partial kitchen up there as well. Other rooms down further, and the actual huge kitchen and utility rooms all the way down along with the living room and such. There'd have to be a basement as well, but with it being a hip-roof barn you'd have tons of space, so why not make an underground garage while you're at it? Then outside... I don't think I'd want to keep it red, so a different color would be in order. Completely black would look dominating on the landscape I think. :P Landscaping... lots of large hardwoods up close to provide shade for the yard, and then think pine/fir trees farther out for privacy. A single two-lane driveway would lead out to the electronic gate. And tada, big weird house.
Fringe people. It's weird doing my job because of fringe people. When you're in a big complex, you never know who to expect out on the fringes. Will the fringes hold the nicer people who wanted to escape the "horrors" of the people who live in the middle or just wanted to seperate themselves from it. Or will the fringe hold the nasty people, the people who don't clean anything, who live like animals out there because they can't afford to live in the center or else aren't wanted there. ALso strange.
My job. I'm sick of it... royally. I was thinking about how I don't want to get stuck in it. But then I thought... so I quit. Maybe in a few weeks, telling them to start looking for a new person and that I want to be gone by the end of October. That's the bad part... waiting on them to find a new person and for me to train them... it kind of makes it hard to line up a new job ahead of time which is why I was worried about being stuck. But then I started wearing my jester's hat to my locations, and although most people love it, I'm sure it worries some people about who that joker is that's going into their apartments. And then I thought... so they complain, and my boss tells me to quit wearing it... what if I refuse? What are they going to do? Fire me? If they do, I get off scott-free because like hell I'm going to train someone for them when I'm fired and gone. And chances are they won't fire me because they need someone to do the job until they find someone else, and they need someone to train the new person. :P So then I thought... so why not speed alittle more to get my work done faster? And break just about any rule I want to for that matter? :P If they fire me, I'm free, if they don't, I get my job done faster and happier. I kind of win both ways. It's nice not really wanting the job you have... it makes things so much simpler to know that you really don't care if they fire you. :P In my lower days this week, I was thinking how I wish they would fire me just to end my misery. It really sucks the life out of you sometimes. So thought is going into letting them know I want to be gone by the end of October.
Hawks. I saw six of them yesterday. They were all over. I miss my Ford Probe GT with my moon-roof... I used to have it it out and whistle to them to try to get them to swoop down on my car. It was fun. If I can find another Ford Probe GT like my old one... I'm so there... I will make it mine, because test-driving the Saturn SC2 was bleh... it had no pick-up and go compared to my used, 100K+ mile, Ford Probe. I thought that was extremely sad and pathetic. So what the hell, but another used older one for cheap like I did the first time. I paid more for my shitty Olds Achieva S and I don't like it at all, but I had to have a car. Must find a twin of my Probe.
Eminemite. I saw one yesterday... looked just like him. It was crazy. Clothes, shoes, bleached hair, little earing. It was funny. I thought at the time, "Why is Eminem at this apartment complex?" :P
Some guy came up to me at the same apartment complex... told me he didn't want any money, and that he'd pay me ten dollars to take him to his mom's a few blocks away. I actually thought about it for a minute, it was scary. He was missing several teeth. But then I asked him how far, and he said "Not far." so I asked hima gain and he said the same. It wasn't until I asked him blocks or miles that he gave me any more detail. So then I asked him why he was over where I was and he said he was at his dad's and named a building number six or so doors down. I wasn't buying it by that point. And then I realized I was driving a company vehicle full of money, and told him sorry.... there was now ay in hell I was giving anyone a ride in there (well, unless they were someone I knew already, or a really hot girl. :D) So I told him sorry, not in a company vehicle. And he was like, "And I was gonna pay you too..." and wandered off. I should have asked him how he got there in the first place, and why his dad couldn't drive him there. But it didn't matter... he wandered off *across* the street to a different apartment complex so I'm thinking it was a good thing I came to my senses.
Didn't do the work I was supposed to, and fucked up the month of August for the company I guess. Oops. Went and got Kira Sunday and went tot he Renaissance Festival again. Walked around all day until they closed. The Ded Bob Sho was there! I was so happy. Kira bought a few cool things. I bought my black and green jester's hat. We both bought (*ahem*) bronze pendant necklaces. I know one of hers was the moon and star on one side and "The Goddess" on the other. Her other was a celtic knot and celtic pentagram if I remember right. I got one that has a rune for "Love Magic" on one side, and a rune for "Higher Self" on the other side. I'm pleased, it hangs nicely between my celtic knot necklace and my gemini one. :) The bronze also darkens and gets this aged look within a day that I'm really pleased with. Honey Stix! They had them at the Festival... yummy! I bought 18 of them. :P Kira said she doesn't normally like honey, but she liked them, so I think she bought 12 too. :P I ate my last one yesterday though.... must get more this weekend! After that we drove back here and hung out. Nate and Melissa watched movies in the living room, and Nicole and Russell offered to play a game, but Russell backed out of playing Monopoly so we didn't play anything. :P Mom and dad were up north with their friends from Pennsylvania, Pat and Ron, who they met on their 25th Anniversary cruise back in February. Monday we went to Subway for lunch, I used 4 of my subway cards full of stamps. :P
Subway is grand, I love it. I had a footlong Sweet Onion and Chicken Teriyaki on Honey Oat, with provolone, with lettuce, tomato, sweet onion sauce, and mayonaise. Also I had a six inch buffalo chicken on white with provolone, lettuce, tomato, and onion, and the ranch dressing. Yum! I got a deal too (more in a minute). :P After that we went to B&N for the rest of the day. Sat around and talked, drank yummy things from the cafe, etc. I got a call from mom who had gotten home and found the mess my siblings had left. I got yelled at over the phone for a good 20 minutes probably. She asked me if I was coming home for dinner, and I said I didn't know, should I? And she said she wouldn't, so I didn't. :P Not long after that, Kira's mom called to find out where she was and when she'd be home. :P That was hilarious. :D Eventually, around 8-8:30 I think, I drove Kira back up to her parents house, and then drove back down to B&N for another 45 minutes before they closed. I reminded the B&N people to do the 15 minute warning. :P And then I headed home. ABout 18 minutes from home, Mom called again, a little calmer, and asked where I was... they had stayed up to watch a movie, and didn't realize B&N was open. I told her, and she offered me food. :P I got home and had steak and special potatos. :D And they also got me present... a coin book for all 50 state quarters! I had the first Blue Whitman books that covers two years, but we hadn't been able to find the next one.... so now I have an all-in-one book instead. :)
Deals... Steve in the cafe at B&N gave me a huge discount one day just for kicks. At Subway, the lady said she'd give me a discount on my 6-inch sub and only charged me $1.70 for it instead of $3.99 just for the heck of it. :P And Matt, a guy I talk to at B&N frequently, works for a huge church nearby and a rehab program of sorts. He used to be a druggie, alcoholic, punk-type, but he's gone religious now and cleaned himself up so that he runs this program to help others... he even has an office. :P But anyway, they get donated tons of Sobe and prtein bars, and he knew I eat protein bars, and he said the ones they have have like 52 grams of protein... which is huge really compared to the 35g ones at GNC, so he says he'll bring me a box, maybe even a case. :P He can't/won't sell them, but they have so many, he said he could donate them to me. :P Free stuff for Rick!
Meanwhile, my betta is going nutty in his bowl. I bought him a bigger bowl to set on my desk so he has a change of pace from his little bowl in my palm tree. I think the bowl is big enough though that the curve of the bowl near the center is small enough that he can catch his own reflection once ina while, so then he displays and goes all fruity until he gets bored with himself or else I put my finger near that spot on the outside of the bowl, or else lean towards him with my mouth open like I'm going to eat him. :P I'm surprised he's not fat too, he eats quite a bit... the pig. Just like his owner! :P THe one food I have says only feed him 1-3 granules once or twice a day... he eats much more than that though. :P Oh well, he seems happy. :D
As part of completely cleaning my room before Pat and Ron came, I also finally drilled drainage holes int he bottom of my green ceramic pot from germany witha masonry bit and drill borrowed from dad. THen Ir eplanted my date plam in it finally which was the purpose for buying it. So now all my plant life is happy too.
And now, although I could write more, it's 1:10PM, and I need to get to work. Maybe Wendy will be working tonight and I'll actually ask her out, maybe to the Renaissance Festival even. :P Saturday is also Charlotte/Eaton County's Frontier Days Parade and most of the fun stuff about Frontier Days happens then. It actually started yesterday, but bleh, who wants to hang out at the fairgrounds in a makeshift "saloon"... heh. Oh, few other small things... got two tiny fillings last Friday. It actually went very smoothly, and no pain. Now I have three fillings... I'm sad. I think the dental hygienist who cleaned my teeth before that, Shelly, was hitting on me too. :P She asked me if I had a girlfriend, and told me stories randomly that made sure I knew she was single. :P "How interesting to know you live with another female and when you hear a noise in the closet, you have to recruit *her* boyfriend to investigate it. That really had nothing to do with anything we were talking about, but thanks for sharing!" :P Ice at the Ren. Fest. on Sunday made my tooth hurt a bit, but it's passed now and I've gotten used to it. Other than that, work, remidning the B&N people to do the announcement, being picked on by B&N people (:P), and returning the same to them. :P Need to look for new job though more than anything, I need out of this one soon. Also, we got an AOL CD in the mail addressed to "Weiner D." :P
A big giant "I'm sorry." to everyone on my friend's list who is annoyed by my big long string of posts, I had no other choice as will be explained in a minute when I give a...
...BIG GIANT FUCK YOU TO LIVEJOURNAL, who won't let me make a single post larger than about a paragraph, and not even a large paragraph which is why my account of Saturday is even split in two. It will accept one-word entries with ease, and even small paragraphs, but if the post gets anywhere near two paragraphs or more than several lines, it times out and refuses to post anything at all from both the win32 client and the web page. Congrats go to LiveJournal for making their site almost completely useless and annoying and extraneous to use otherwise!
Whoo! Lets give the site a big hand for being unusable for me for the last week or two! Whee! Yay!
I'd post another support request saying I checked status.*, lj_maintenance, etc. But I'd just get told to check them again, and then told to try again during a non-peak time, or in 5 minutes... just like last time. Whoo, that'll help not at all. These new servers that are "on the way" better improve things drastically or I'm really going to have a fit.
